Artist Universe Philosophy

We aim to produce works of merit which promote respect for intellectual pursuits, cultural and social tolerance and understanding, and a widening perspective on an increasingly tunnel-visioned world.

We are committed to promoting quality both in writing and in the message that words convey. We believe that quality is ignorant of borders and nationality, that every author is worthy of being given a chance, and that a publishing track record is no guarantee of quality.

We suggest that there is no formula for a great work, though acknowledge very many very successful books are written to formula. The truly great work defies such recipes, and the reading public is thankfully discerning in recognizing this. We have great faith in the ability of authors to invent the unexpected, and in that indomitable quality in readers that keeps them searching for the exceptional.

We worry that many great stories are not being told for a vast array of reasons, not least economics and industry norms. We acknowledge the importance of economics, and at the same time recognize the power of small to avoid the massive burdens that come with size.

We are concerned that manuscripts with the potential to be at least very good, if not great, are not realizing that potential for lack of an informed editorial process, are ending up merely being printed, and thus lost to the discerning reading public.

And just in case it seems we are taking all if this a little too seriously and that we really do have faith in the greater good, please note we didn’t include the I-word anywhere (I tried, I really did, even had The Thesaurus out, but just couldn’t  bring myself to type it). So, what we are saying is, we’ll look at your manuscript, we'll keep an open mind, and if we think it’s interesting, we’ll start talking to you. How does one define interesting anyway? There’s that hook which has an indefinable attraction which actually pulls the reader in and keeps him there.

But, please note, the writing must be good, or at least we’ll help you make it so!
